Social media works for Barack Obama

A report by Edelman analyzes how Barack Obama used social media (Internet and mobile) during his election... and very successfully I might add. Jalai Hartman has also written an article on the same subject called Obamanomics (it seems everybody is trying to coin a term these days). Both articles make an effort to point out that Obama did not treat the Internet and social media as just another channel or an "add-on" to promote his campaign. Obama went a step further and made Internet presence and community the hub of his campaign effort.

Obama's success is just another indication how big of a role social networks on the Internet are playing. To put it more colourfully - in a sense, future politics will be determined by the speed of your Internet connection.

My fellow IMKE student Olja has also made a nice blog post about social media and marketing 2.0 with some good links in there.
